R&D; ASSOCIATE – KELOWNA

The R&D; Associate and is responsible for performing tasks independently and in support of R&D; Scientists and the Facilities team. Responsibilities will span multiple segments of production including, but not limited to, Cultivation, Sanitation, Fertigation, Integrated Pest Management, , Quality, and the Analytical Laboratory. All tasks must be performed in accordance with any relevant SOPs and Work Instructions. The R&D; Associate reports directly the R&D; Cultivation Manager.
CORE JOB DUTIES
- Perform cultivation-related tasks with direction from the Cultivation Manager, Horticultural Scientists, department heads, and Facilities team:
o Transplanting and propagation
o Plant work – i.e defoliating and pruning
o Sanitation and cleaning of cultivation areas and the laboratory
o Harvesting and post-harvest activities
o Collecting samples and data
o Performing activities related to Integrated Pest Management and Fertigation
o Preparing Fertigation solutions
o Sampling and verifying fertigation solution parameters
o Assist with work in other areas as directed
- Comply with all facility Standard Operating Procedures including gowning, sanitation, workplace safety, confidentiality, inventory traceability, sampling, communicating results or issues requiring attention, and reporting data.
- Monitor plant health daily; complete associated forms, identify and communicate all observations and concerns to R&D; Scientists.
- Ensure compliance with inventory tracking of plants from clone through to harvest using the seed- to-sale software.
- Support the Analytical Lab manager with sample preparation, data collection and communication, analysis and sanitation duties.
- Maintain a safe, clean and organized work environment.
- Support employee safety, morale and productivity. Serve as a role model for Flowr Core Values.
- Report any personnel and safety concerns or issues to senior personnel and the Facility teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a horticultural discipline; or any satisfactory combination of experience and training which clearly demonstrates the ability to perform the above-described duties.
Bachelor’s degree in related scientific field (Pharmaceutical, Chemistry, Biology etc.).
Familiar with GMP/GPP/GDP; Cannabis experience an asset.
Previous work experience within a lab or research setting is preferred. Previous experience with data collection and analysis is considered an asset.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Moderate level of computer proficiency including Microsoft Outlook and Excel.
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and lift equipment or plants up to 50 lbs. for extended periods.
Adaptability within a rapidly changing work environment.
Excellent time management and organizational skills. Ability to work within tight time constraints is a must.
Self-motivated with the ability to identify, delegate and complete needed tasks on schedule without direct supervision.
Ability to work weekend or extended shifts as needed.
Temperatures range from 20° to 32° C
Repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms
Ability to stand, sit, kneel, and operate sensors for extended periods
