GHD's Impact Assessment and Approvals Group is based out of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), with team members in offices across North America and focuses on Solid Waste Planning, Environmental Assessments, stakeholder engagement and environmental permits and approvals. This position will be based in one of our GTA office locations (Mississauga, Markham, Toronto, Whitby), with project work in Ontario primarily and across Canada, as required.

We are looking for a well-rounded, enthusiastic,

well-organized individual with previous experience on projects involving multi-disciplinary teams involved in Solid Waste Planning including Master Plans, diversion, zero waste and collection strategies as well as the ability to participate in Environmental Assessments for solid waste infrastructure.


Reporting to the Principal of the Impact Assessment and Approvals Group, the successful candidate will complete tasks including the following:

Provide advice to public and private clients on policy, planning, facility siting, permitting, and operations with a focus on sustainability.

Leading proposal writing for new projects

Assisting project teams with Approval and Permit applications

Facilitation skills to assist in public meetings and other meetings with the public, clients, and other project stakeholders.

Completing portions of waste impact assessments for project teams

Leading report compilation and drafting text for summary documents

Assisting project teams in completing Solid Waste Master Plans/ Zero Waste strategies

Helping with coordination of Open Houses for public consultation

Creation of PowerPoint presentations for public meetings

Reviewing sub-consultants reports and cross-referencing to policy and legislation guidelines

Attending meetings as required and preparing meeting minutes or reports

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:

A post-secondary education in environmental planning, environmental policy, waste management planning, environmental science, or a related discipline

3-5+ years project experience in a variety of sectors, with an emphasis on waste management (also, municipal infrastructure, transportation, energy)

Familiarity and experience with Extended Producer Responsibility frameworks and legislation

Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to work well with people (staff and clients) and a demeanor that reflects genuine interest and ability to assess a situation and consider what people will be interested in/concerned with is required.

Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, Project Powerpoint)

Strong time management and organizational skills

Familiarity with Provincial and Federal Environmental Assessment legislation

Experience working with First Nations (specifically in the waste sector) would be an asset

Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle.
